Mozambique: Two seriously injured as MDM march in Gorongosa dispersed, police says - Watch
Two persons suffered minor injuries and a vehicle was damaged in an attack carried out by Renamo on a vehicle convoy escorted by the Armed Forces of Defence and Security (FDS) travelling from Muxúnguè to Save on Tuesday.
The ambush took place in the village of Pinda, in the district of Machanga, 45 kilometres from the bridge over the Save river on National Road No. 1 in Sofala province.
The attack focused on a Linhas Terrestres de Moçambique [‘Mozambican Land Lines’] (LTM) bus carrying passengers from Tete to Maputo. The injuries were caused by flying glass and panic following the shots.
One female victim had injuries in the chest, and a male in the back, Sofala provincial police command spokesman Daniel Macuácua told the Diário de Moçambique.
Macuácua said that the injured were taken to the Save Health Centre straight after the attack and received medical treatment before continuing their journey.
“The Defence and Security Forces condemn Renamo’s warmongering actions, and are on the ground to guarantee public order, security and tranquillity. Even with these attacks, the column continued to its destination,” Macuácua said.
