The Bons Sinais (Good Signs) Association will soon start rehabilitating the roof of the old Quelimane Cathedral, in Zambezia province, with the help of funding from the Norwegian embassy.
Speaking at a press conference in Quelimane, Bons Sinais president António Barros said that Norway would provide around four million meticais, and that activity would commence with the end of the rainy season in March.
Since 2017, the association has raised an estimated one million dollars for the rehabilitation of the cathedral, and last Friday held a community meeting in Quelimane to celebrate its achievements and lay out prospects for 2019.
The governor of Zambézia, Abdul Razak, encouraged the Association of Good Signs to continue the initiative, and participants in general expressed satisfaction with the rehabilitation of the 240-year-old cathedral.
After its rehabilitation, the cathedral will be used as a venue for various cultural activities.
