The Mozambican government will soon launch a public tender with a view to selecting a contractor for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Nacala-Porto dam to increase the capacity to supply water to the population of the Nacala-Porto and Nacala-a-Velha districts.
Rehabilitation will more than double the capacity of the dam from the current 7,000 cubic metres per day to 15,000, Deputy Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Cecília Chamutota, revealed.
Chamutota was in Nampula province last week and visited the Nacala Dam to see how the infrastructure works.
On the occasion, she indicated that the water supply coverage rate in the two districts currently stands at 35%. The completion of the rehabilitation project is expected to increase the figure to 80%.
