Portuguese experts train 252 Mozambican doctors in diabetes diagnosis, treatment

One of the main challenges facing the Mozambican Health Ministry in 2017 is to reduce the levels of maternal and infant mortality, declared Deputy Health Minister Mouzinho Saide on Sunday.
He was speaking to reporters after delivered baby clothes to the first infant born in Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) in the New Year. The baby, a boy weighing about four kilos, was born at just one minute past midnight.
Saide said that improving conditions in the health system was fundamental in reducing maternal mortality, and listed a series of measures taken by the government to achieve these improvements.
“We have been increasing the number of maternity facilities and equipping them”, he said. “We have ensured that there are workers and community transport which can guarantee that these women have access to the health units”.
“We have been making intervention to limit illness which can be fatal to women, such as post-partum haermorrhages”, he added.
