The patients who have recovered from Covid-19 in Mozambique have gone from 10 to 18, as health authorities announce that the 91 cases tested in the last 24 hours have all come back negative.
“All the recovered patients had no hospitalisation, with some having mild symptoms and others without symptoms”, declared the national director of Public Health, Rosa Marlene today, during a press conference at the Ministry of Health, in Maputo.
So far, since the pandemic was declared on March 11, a total of 2,337 tests were conducted in Mozambique, of which 79 came back positive, with no record of fatalities.
Health authorities also traced more than 500,000 people, with an accumulated total of 12,000 people quarantined in the country and 1,035 being monitored.
The National Director for Public Health reinforced the call for compliance with preventative measures, warning of the high number of people moving “without essential reasons” in Mozambique.
“Despite the extension of the state of emergency, we have noticed that people are out of their homes. A lot of people are on the street. Please, let’s stay at home,” said Rosa Marlene.
The number Covid-19 deaths in Africa has risen to 1,689 in the past few hours, with more than 40,000 cases of the disease reported in 53 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.
Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Equatorial Guinea leads in number of infections (315) and one death, followed by Guinea-Bissau (257 and one death), Cape Verde (123 and two deaths), Mozambique (79 ), Angola (30 infected and two dead) and São Tomé and Príncipe has 18 confirmed cases and one death.
Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed almost 239,000 deaths and infected more than 3.3 million people in 195 countries and territories.
More than a million patients were considered cured.
