Work on rebuilding public infrastructure in Nhamatanda district, Sofala province, damaged in 2020 by the self-proclaimed Renamo Military Junta, has begun, Rádio Moçambique reports.
The Macorococho secretariat building is the first to be restored.
It is expected that the facilities will be ready by the end of the first half of this year.
Five other buildings damaged by the Renamo splinter group and including health units and a police station, will be rehabilitated this year.

The director of Nhamatanda District Planning and Infrastructure Services, Nelson Nessa, recalls that, despite the vandalization of public infrastructure, the provision of state services to the population continued uninterrupted.
“There was a need to rebuild the Makorokocho secretariat building, which was burned down. So that’s the reality, it’s happening right now. With the reconstruction of the building, service to the general public will improve, as there was difficulty in serving people and communities looking for services in the [Macorococho] locality. When we have the’ edifício da localidade’, service will improve and, furthermore, it will be closer to the communities,” he said.
