The heavy rains that started on Sunday afternoon and continued this Monday, left streets and houses flooded on the outskirts of Maputo.
This is how the peripheral neighbourhoods of the city of Maputo look like after the torrential rain that started on Sunday. Streets, houses and other infrastructure was flooded .
There is little movement, many people unable to get to their jobs or other income-generating activities. Even more regrettable is the situation of those unable to access health services.
The Head of Block says he does not see the slightest advantage for residents [see the video report below], although he recognises that it saves the highway, which has a long history of flooding.
The municipality has a long-standing desire to transform low-lying areas into rainwater catchment basins, but the perennial obstacle is the difficulty of resettling families.
