Frelimo’s Verification Committee secretary Raimundo Diomba said on Saturday that Samora Machel Junior might be expelled from the party for violation of the statutes.
As for Manuel Chang, Diomba says that the party was awaiting the outcome of the current court case.
This is the first time that the secretary of the Frelimo Party Verification Committee Raimundo Diomba has spoken on the case involving Samora Machel Junior.
In an interview with newspaper ‘O País’, Diomba, who is also governor of the province of Maputo, said that there was no doubt that Samito had violated the party’s statutes and did not rule out the possibility of him being expelled. As for the case of Manuel Chang, Diomba says that the party was awaiting the outcome of the administration of justice process.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Association of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle (ACLLN)Fernando Faustino said the behaviour of Samora Júnior and Manuel Chang would not affect the party’s image.
Article 13 (e) of the Frelimo Statute considers expulsion to be the most serious of the sanctions which only takes place in case of serious breaches.
According to paragraph 9 of the same article, the penalty of expulsion “implies the permanent cessation of any bond of the member with the party and can only be applied for serious misconduct, namely, failure to respect the essential program principles and the political line of the party , the non-observance of the Statutes, regulations and decisions of the organs, the violation of the commitments assumed and in general the conduct that entails serious damage to the prestige and good name of the party”.
