Mozambique’s Limpopo railway line is expected to post record volumes of cargo transported in 2018, an official source has declared.
Mozambique Railways (CFM) has signed an agreement with Zimbabwe’s railways and a Zimbabwean mining company which foresees the transport of one million tonnes of chromium and iron ingots by the end of next year.
The ingots will be transported to Maputo and Beira ports on the Limpopo and Machipanda lines respectively.
CFM and the National Railways of Zimbabwe company are mobilising railway equipment, including wagons and locomotives, for the effort. The agreement was signed between the two companies and mining company Zimasco.
The signing of the agreement, along with other projects, is expected to raise the capacity of the Limpopo line to about one million tons.
