Work on the doubling of the Ressano Garcia railway line is practically complete.
The first phase of the project covers a length of 42 kilometres between Matola-Gare and Secongene in Moamba district, Maputo province.
Agostinho Langa Júnior, chairman of the Board of Directors of Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM), said that the company had invested, in total, around US$80 million of its own funds in the project.
This investment will increase the freight transport capacity of the Ressano Garcia line from 13.0 to 24.0 million tons per year.
Speaking a few days ago in Maputo, Agostinho Júnior explained that, in addition to investing in the railway infrastructure, the company was also purchasing additional rolling stock for the Ressano Garcia line, namely ten locomotives, 420 wagons (of which 300 high-sided, for the transport of minerals), and 120 tanker wagons for fuel, at a total cost of US$68.4 million.
