Qatar Airways has announced it will start direct flights between Maputo and Doha from March, reinforcing links between Mozambique and Qatar. The Maputo-Doha link will be served by latest-generation Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Qatar have flown between Maputo and Doha with a stopover in Johannesburg since 2012, and the introduction of direct flights will reduce travel time by two hours.
Mozambican company Cotur Travel & Tours were awarded a prize for being the airline’s lead agency in Mozambique.
The announcement was made during a sales awards gala for travel agencies, and the introduction of the new route shows the confidence that the carrier has in the strength of the Mozambican market.
With the new non-stop service to Maputo, passengers from Europe, America, Middle East and Asia can now connect to Maputo via a stopover in Doha.
Other agencies distinguished at the awards ceremony were Safe Travel and Mextur.
Noor Momade, director of Cotur Travel & Tours, told Notícias that the Qatar Airways prize is important for his agency as it is regularly voted one of the best airlines in the world, and because this is the first time that it has rewarded its partners in Mozambique since the start of operations.
“This award shows once again that we are on track for the future and that our customers are more than satisfied with the service we offer,” Momade said.
