The Commander-in-Chief of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Bernardino Rafael, has announced that members of the corporation found to be involved in corruption in the performance of their duties will face severe and exemplary measures.
Bernardino Rafael spoke out at a police rally in Pemba on Sunday.
“We do not want a police force that asks citizens for “refreshment”, as they described to us in Olumbe. Imagine what that’s like …. Someone asks for “refreshment” from a citizen who has lost his possessions, who is in search of his documents, who some miscreant has assaulted and you still require that I give you “refreshment”? The only difference between him and the criminal is that you’re still in town! So stop being the criminals in this city!” Rafael said.
