Prime Minister Benvinda Levi on Thursday made her first visit to the Mozambique Leaf Tobacco factory in Tete province, where she witnessed every step of the treatment process.
“It was interesting to see the responsibility they take, from production to the involvement of communities who are provided with inputs, to product quality checks and the provision of phytosanitary support, all the way through to production,” she said.
Another aspect that impressed the prime minister was seeing that the workers are well treated and have a health center where, in recent years, no employee has had a work-related illness.
“Overall, we can say that it is a sustainable activity because it not only supports national farmers but also uses them to produce crops, not only cash crops like this one, but also other crops for their self-sustainability. They transmit knowledge to these communities, and this is useful, especially since this tobacco also contributes to exports and the inflow of foreign currency into the country,” the prime minister concluded.
