Mozambique reports over 11.5 million malaria cases in 2024
Among the diseases are malaria, respiratory infections and diarrhoea
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that 320 children die of preventable causes such as malaria, respiratory infections and diarrhoea in Mozambique every day.
It also warns of a rapid increase in Aids-related illnesses, which is influenced by the fact that women make up 58 per cent of the people living with HIV, of whom only about 7 per cent have access to treatment that prevents transmission to the baby.
However, Canalmoz reports in an article dated June 1 that UNICEF data suggest that Mozambican children are more likely to live beyond their fifth birthday than they were 20 years ago.
In education, deficiencies remain, but children now have more opportunities to learn than before, with 83 per cent of children enrolled in primary education, against 32 per cent in 1992.
