Fabrica Nacional de Medicamentos SA (FNM) proudly announces that it has been granted World Health Organization Prequalification for international manufacture of medicines which implies, medicines manufactured in FNM is of the highest quality and of International standards, marketable in International markets.
This prestigious WHO PQ certification is not just a recognition of the factory’s compliance with the highest international manufacturing standards, but also a testament to Mozambique’s growing capacity to manufacture world-class pharmaceuticals. It enables FNM to supply its products not only to Mozambique’s National Health Service but also to other nations and organizations including developed Countries.
Since its inception in 2015, FNM has been dedicated to serving Mozambique’s health security needs, producing over 1 bn doses a year and about 85 essential medicines, including antihypertensive, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antihistamines, antidiabetics, antifungals, analgesic, antibacterial, antacids, antidiarrheal, vitamins, antimalarial and antivirals. By ensuring the constant availability of these medicines in the Country, the company has played a vital role in stabilizing the supply chain for essential drugs. This has been made possible through close collaboration with Mozambique’s Ministry of Health and the National Regulatory Authority, ANARME. Both institutions have been instrumental in fostering a regulatory environment that encourages innovation and growth in local pharmaceutical manufacturing that has made this achievement possible. With their support, FNM are partnering international manufacture of repute like Mylan and Viatris to address Mozambique’s requirement across wide range of therapeutic areas to transfer the latest technologies for domestic manufacturing.
With the WHO PQ certification in hand, FNM is expanding its production capabilities as a major producer in Africa already one of the three best manufacturers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The company is investing in its manufacturing capabilities, with advanced technologies to increase production efficiency and capacity building. FNM and Mozambique Holdings, Lda has partnered with MISAU Government of Mozambique to rehabilitate government owned Sociedade Medicamentos de Moçambique – SMM, their oral solid dosage facility in Machava and building a state-of-the-art liquid pharmaceutical factory at the same site, for injectables and Vaccines
