President urges Cabo Delgado border guard forces to strengthen control over border with Tanzania – RM

President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi has urged border forces in Cabo Delgado to intensify their control of the border with Tanzania so as to limit the entry and exit of terrorists operating in the province.

Speaking at a Defence and Security Forces position in the administrative post of Mieze in Metuge district, President Nyusi said that the border guards in the province had additional responsibilities.

“We have neighbours who control their borders, but they don’t control our borders and they don’t have to control our borders. Sometimes, they even make things difficult for our fellow citizens. But we have nothing to charge them with, because they have their mission and we have ours. Take pride in being Mozambique’s border guards,” President Nyusi said.

President Nyusi said that the military contingent from Rwanda already present in the country, and that from SADC, which arrives next week, were not coming to replace the Defence and Security Forces, and that the defence of national sovereignty remained the responsibility of Mozambicans themselves.

O Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi, insta as forças de guarda-fronteiras, posicionadas em Cabo Delgado, a intensificarem o controlo na linha fronteiriça com a Tanzânia, como forma de limitar os movimentos de entrada e saída de terroristas, que actuam nesta província.

Falando numa das posições das Forças de Defesa e Segurança, no posto administrativo de Mieze, no distrito de Metuge, Filipe Nyusi disse que a força de guarda-fronteiras, que está na província, tem responsabilidades acrescidas.

“Nós temos vizinhos que controlam as suas fronteiras, mas não controlam as nossas fronteiras e não são obrigados a controlar as nossas fronteiras. Por vezes, até dificultam os nossos concidadãos. Nós não temos nada que cobrar a eles porque eles têm a sua missão e nós temos a nossa. Orgulhem-se por ser os vigilantes da fronteira de Moçambique”, disse

O Chefe de Estado disse que o contingente militar do Ruanda, que já está no país, e da SADC, que chega na próxima semana, não vêm substituir as Forças de Defesa e Segurança, pelo que a defesa da soberania nacional, é da responsabilidade dos próprios moçambicanos.
