President Filipe Nyusi has sent congratulations to former Mozambican president Armando Guebuza on the occasion of his birthday last Friday.
In a press release sent to AIM, Nyusi writes: “Allow me to address to you my warmest congratulations on the passing of another birthday, today, January 20th.”
The head of state said that former president Armando Guebuza “inspires us with his contribution to the struggle for the liberation of Mozambicans from the colonial yoke and the reconstruction of the Mozambican nation, fundamental premises for the well-being sought by the Mozambican people”.
Nyusi however acknowledged that the anniversary was not celebrated with quite the tranquility desirable, as the former president and his family are living through troubled times.
“Yet we are convinced that you have known, as you have always shown, how to endure pain with your characteristic firmness, without accepting the misfortune, and assuming with the magnitude and personality shaped by your long journey, that you have no alternative but to look ahead,” the president said.
Thus Nyusi “joins the Mozambican people and represents them in conveying feeling of rejoicing and gratitude for living through these times together”.
“A long life and the best of fortunes close to your family,” Nyusi’s message concludes.
