Mozambique Elections: Police shoot mourners at Ressano Garcia funeral - AIM report
Folha de Maputo / Filipe Nyusi.
The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, said on Sunday that Mozambique should be peaceful and not be held hostage by any one group of people.
President Nyusi said everything was being done to resumes political dialogue between the government and Renamo, stressing that it was not intended to force dialogue.
“We have said many times that all the forces of society are welcome to contribute, but in general not a single force comes up with a concrete solution as to what should happen,” Nyusi said.
Speaking at a press conference in Addis Ababa on Mozambique’s participation in the African Union Summit, the president said that if the government accepted Renamo’s demands, it would just create another problem.
“I realize that if we say okay, Renamo will govern in the six provinces, people will say that this is not democracy; it raises a new problem,” he added.
