The Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, has redefined the competences of the Ministries of Labour and of Economy and Finance and those of the Secretariat of State for Youth and Employment, reads a press release from the Presidency of the Republic issued on Monday.
In the document, Filipe Nyusi defines the Ministry of Labour and Social Security as a central organ of the state apparatus responsible for the direction, planning, studies and control of government action in the field of labour administration and social security.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance takes on the task of “guiding and coordinating the design, implementation and evaluation of public development policies and strategies aimed at the growth and inclusive development of the economy”, in addition to directing the planning and management of public finance.
For the State Secretariat for Youth and Employment, an entity that results from the winding up of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the competences are: the definition, implementation of policies, strategies, economic and social programs adopted by the state, ensuring direction, coordination, planning and control government action in the fields of youth and employment.
Filipe Nyusi began a new mandate in January after winning the presidential elections of October 15 of last year, in a ballot in which his party (Frelimo, the party in power since independence) also won the legislative and provincial elections with a qualified majority.
In Mozambique, the head of state is also head of the government, due to constitutional imperatives derived from the current presidential regime.
