The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is to visit Mozambique from 3 to 7 May, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Teresa Ribeiro, told Lusa yesterday.
Ribeiro announced the Portuguese head of state’s visit at the end of a meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister and Cooperation of Mozambique, Nyeleti Mondlane yesterday, saying that de Sousa’s visit would help strengthen the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa invited his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to his inauguration in Lisbon on 9 March.
The Portuguese foreign affairs secretary also revealed that Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, would visit Mozambique in the last quarter of this year, to participate in the 3rd Bilateral Summit.
“Relations between our two countries are excellent, and the meeting went in accordance with the excellence and frankness of the relationship between Portugal and Mozambique,” Ribeiro said.
The meeting also addressed economic cooperation, the level of investments, the state of previous cooperation programmes and preparation for the next. The foreign affairs minister also plans to meet Adriano Maleiane and Jorge Ferrao, ministers of economy and finance and education, during her stay.
