Filipe Nyusi will visit Finland in June, the Finnish Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade announced yesterday in Maputo.
“We discussed the president’s visit to Finland and look forward to welcoming him,” Finland’s Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Ville Skinnari, said in Maputo after meeting Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, as part of a working visit to Mozambique.
Minister Skinnari explained that the discussions at Thursday’s meeting centred around bilateral cooperation and development, as well as relations with the European Union.
“We had a very productive and good meeting and look forward to the next time, in Finland in June,” he said.
For her part, the Mozambican Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said that “economic and business relations should be raised to higher levels”.
“Mozambique’s desire is to see the areas of agriculture, industry and fisheries expanded even further,” Verónica Macamo said, adding that the operationalisation of the 2020-2024 cooperation plan was on the table.
Finland has participated in rural development, education and good governance initiatives, she said.
“The most difficult thing for a poor person is hunger, so the issue of agriculture and other areas that contribute to the production of food are being looked into very carefully,” added Verónica Macamo.
Ville Skinnari’s visit to Mozambique aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
In addition to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ville Skinnari had scheduled meetings with the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita, the Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua, and the Speaker of the Assembly of the People, Esperança Bias.
Before Mozambique, Ville Skinnari visited Tanzania, where he also held meetings with government officials with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
