Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi pointed to infrastructure and energy as priorities in cooperation with Zambia, advocating the intensification of production for the generation of wealth in the two countries.
“Infrastructure, energy, agriculture, tourism, education and research sectors must be given priority in cooperation between Mozambique and Zambia,” President Nyusi said at the weekend at the opening of the 52nd edition of the Zambia International Fair, quoted yesterday by Radio Mozambique.
Mozambique and Zambia, he continued, should focus on increasing production and replacing imports with exports in order to reduce the cost of living.
“To lower the cost of living, particularly for low-income segments, we must replace imported agricultural products. We must also develop infrastructure projects and develop economies able to reduce transaction costs,” he said.
Zambia uses Mozambique transportation corridors for most of its international trade.
In March, the Mozambican president and his Zambian counterpart, Edgar Lungu, inaugurated the Nacala Floating Thermoelectric Plant in Nampula province, a 115 megawatt facility which will supply power to Zambia and the region northern Mozambique.
