President Nyusi’s Birthday Wish

A Bola / The president blows out his birthday candles.

President Filipe Nyusi celebrated his 57th birthday yesterday morning in his office in Maputo, receiving congratulations from members of the government and the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo).

The president recalled that it was on February 9 last year that he first met Afonso Dhlakama, the leader of the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo, the main opposition party) to consolidate the peace process.

Blowing out his birthday cake candles, the president revealed his birthday wish. “The best gift that you can give me is your commitment to jointly improve the life of the country and of all Mozambicans.”

“This year, we will continue to give our best for the sake of the country and the people. We will do everything to ensure that the Mozambicans’ struggle succeeds. We have to bring more water, more energy, more schools, more teachers and, above all, more food to our people,” he said.

Filipe Nyusi said he was “sure of the steps” he is taking. “We know what we want and where we are going. We are promoting development, stability and peace. That’s all I ask this anniversary, because my life can not be separated from the life of all Mozambicans,” he concluded.
