President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi is still in northern Mozambique as he embarked on a working visit to the province of Cabo Delgado yesterday, after visiting Niassa for three days.
The president’s visit started in the Balama district, where residents heard the head of state talk about the government’s efforts to maintain peace, rehabilitate roads and manage the Chipembe irrigation scheme.
After his visit to Niassa, the president praised the engagement of the population in measures to combat poverty and underdevelopment in the province.
In response to questions from journalists on the arrest last week of the mayor of Lichinga, Saide Amido, on corruption charges, President Nyusi said that public servants involved in corruption, embezzlement of public funds or abuse of power should receive exemplarily punishment.
“Let it be clear, we do not defend these outrages at any time,” the president said.
In Cabo Degado, the president will visit the districts of Namuno, Chiúre, Quissanga, Metuge and the city of Pemba.
