Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the fourth president of Mozambique, celebrates his 62nd birthday today. He was born on the 9th of February, 1959, in Namau, Mueda district, Cabo Delgado province, the son of Jacinto Nyusi Chimela and Angelina Daima, both deceased.
From 1976 to 1980, he attended Frelimo Secondary School in Mariri, Cabo-Delgado, where he completed his first cycle of secondary education, according to information on the Presidency website.
In 1973, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, at the age of 14 joined the Liberation Front of Mozambique (FRELIMO), and underwent Political Military Training at the Nachingwea Camp, in Tanzania.
As a Pioneer (‘continuador’) he was part of a group that represented students from Tunduru Educational Centre in the celebrations of the proclamation of National independence on 25 June, 1975, at the Machava Stadium in Maputo.
From 2007 to 2008, he served as Executive Director of the Ports and Railways of Maputo Company, in the area of business development.
In 2008, he was appointed Minister of National Defence.
In 2014, he was elected President of the Republic and is currently serving his second term. Filipe Nyusi, is married to Isaura Ferrão Nyusi, is the father of four children.
In 1982, Felipe Nyusi completed his secondary education at the Samora Machel Secondary School in Beira city, Sofala province.
In 1990, he completed the Mechanical Engineering Course at VAAZ de Brno Military Academy in the Czech Republic, where he was awarded a Master’s degree in Engineering and honoured as the Best Student
Filipe Nyusi is a member of the Association of the National Liberation Struggle Fighters (ACLLN) and a member of its national committee.
Filipe Nyusi is a member of the Frelimo Central Committee, elected by the 10th Congress held in Pemba in 2012; he was a member of the Provincial Committee of Frelimo Party in Nampula
In 1992, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi started his professional career at the Mozambique Ports and Railways Company, in Nampula. Between 1992 and 1993 he was a worker and assistant to the chief general workshop in Nampula, and from 1993 to 1995, Railways Director in Nampula.
From 1995 to 2007, he was managing director of the Mozambique Railways Company Northern Region, Nampula.
In 1999, he completed Post Graduate Studies in Senior Management at the Victoria University, in Manchester, United Kingdom
From 1995 to 2005, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi was President of the Clube Ferroviário de Nampula, and in 2004 led the club to victory in the National Champion of Mozambique.
