Mozambique: Former police chief questioned for eight hours, no charges

President Nyusi will attend the inauguration of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of the Republic of Portugal in Lisbon on Wednesday, 9 March.
The Mozambican president will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Oldemiro Baloi, and other presidency staff.
In a message sent to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa congratulating him on his election to the Portuguese presidency on January 25, Filipe Nyusi expressed his “complete willingness” to work with Rebelo de Sousa, “so that relations between the Republic of Mozambique and the Portuguese Republic will continue to be consolidated for the economic and social progress of our peoples and countries,”
Expressing “great satisfaction” with the outcome of the vote and addressing “wishes of much success” for Rebelo de Sousa’s presidential term, the head of the Mozambican State said in the same message that he was convinced that with this election, “the bonds of friendship that have always united our two peoples and countries will continue to be strengthened and deepened.”
Nyusi added that he interpreted the choice of the Portuguese electorate as “a proof of recognition of the personal and professional qualities” of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, which are characterized by the “integrity, commitment and dedication” he has shown during his political career.
The celebrations of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s inauguration, according to Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias, will last three days, starting on Wednesday, March 9 in Lisbon, with the inauguration ceremony taking place in parliament, followed by a reception in the presidency attended, among others, by Jean-Claude Junker, head of the European Commission, and all the invited heads of state. Wednesday evening, there will be a concert where world known Luso-Mozambican Fado singer Mariza and Angolan musician Anselmo Ralph will perform alongside other artists. The following day, there will be a reception to the diplomatic corps and on Friday the celebrations move to Oporto, with an extensive programme where a Hip Hop concert will be part of the festivities.
Though the official list of guests has not yet been made pubic, according to the Portuguese media, around 550 guests are expected in this presidential inauguration.
