Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi is to receive the International Leadership Award for Nature Conservation in the US capital today.
The prize, awarded by the US International Conservation Caucus Foundation, comes in recognition of the commitment and actions undertaken by the Mozambican government in the context of nature conservation.
The gala awards will take place in Congress and will be led by the president of the Foundation, before senators, congressmen and other world personalities.
In Africa, presidents and former presidents of Tanzania, Botswana, Senegal, Ghana and Chad have also received the award.
The president will also today meet three US secretaries of state, the Secretary of State for Commerce among them. The United States is Mozambique’s largest bilateral donor, and the pair will address trade relations between the two countries.
Completing the president’s afternoon diplomatic marathon is a meeting with World Bank president Jim Yong Kim.
