President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi yesterday inaugurated the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Pemba’s Hotel School in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province.
President Nyusi started his speech by pointing out that Monday was the International Day of People with Disabilities, celebrated under the motto “Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda”.
“We have just opened the Hotel School of the Pemba Industrial and Commercial Institute, located in the beautiful tourist province of Cabo Delgado, home to the third-largest bay in the world,” President Nyusi said.
“The construction of this important building, which should have been inaugurated last semester, was postponed as a result of the damage caused by Cyclone Kenneth. It is part of the implementation of the broad process of ongoing vocational education reforms being introduced in the country,” the president said.
“As a result of this reform, we aim to develop a properly qualified workforce with professional skills, work culture and entrepreneurial spirit to effectively intervene in the country’s development processes,” he added.
Indeed, the government, in the framework of its socio-economic infrastructure programme, in this particular case in the area of education, had been making efforts to create more varied educational opportunities.
President Nyusi said the central goal of the government was the promotion of human capital capable of ensuring the rapid and sustainable development of Mozambique, and tourism was one of the priority areas selected to boost development and enhance the well-being of all Mozambicans.
The Mozambican head of state said he expected the newly inaugurated Hotel School to become a benchmark educational centre, where know-how skills were combined with theory in a realistic training and working environment.
After the inauguration of the Pemba Hotel School, the president visited the Pemba Provincial Hospital and the Pemba Sports Complex.
