President Filipe Nyusi will today inaugurate an electricity supply system for Vunduzi administrative post near the Gorongosa mountain range on first day of a three-day working visit to Sofala.
The provision of electricity marks the completion of a 37-kilometre medium and high voltage transmission line from Gorongosa started at the beginning of the year, which local residents say will leverage the agricultural and tourist potential of the area.
Vunduzi has been severely affected by recent political-military tension and is currently attempting to rebuild itself in the truce resulting from dialogue between the head of state and Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama.
Also today, President Nyusi will visit a dam on the Nhandar River which supplies water to Gorongosa and irrigates agricultural fields, lead a popular rally in Vunduzi, visit an agricultural fair and conduct a special session of the provincial government extended to district administrators, mayors of municipal councils and other guests.
The head of state is scheduled to visit Muanza, Chibabava and Búzi districts before next Saturday, similarly liaising with local governments, visiting enterprises of economic and social interest, and meeting members of the public.
