Mozambique to have a State Inspector General, reporting directly to the President
O País
The President of the Republic registered to vote at Josina Machel Secondary School in Maputo this morning, and called for mass participation by voters in Mozambique’s 53 cities and municipal villages.
President Nyusi said that census and voter registration was one way of reversing the high abstention rates that had marred the electoral process recently.
Electoral registration starts today and runs for 60 days until May 17. Commencement was postponed because of the second round of the mayoral by-election in Nampula, which led to the National Election Commission having overlapping activities.
The registration process will verify voters who will participate in the fifth round of municipal elections, scheduled for October 10, and the forthcoming general election.
