President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday appointed Adelino Muchanga president of the Supreme Court for a second five-year term.
Adelino Manuel Muchanga, 44, was nominated for the post of president of Supreme Court in 2014 by then head of state Armando Guebuza, after serving during the previous four years as vice president of that body. He also holds, by reason of his current office, the position of president of the Superior Council of the Judicial Magistracy.
Born in Chibabava, Sofala province, Muchanga has a law degree from Eduardo Mondlane University and a Master’s degree in Commercial Law from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
Adelino Muianga is a former employee of Mozambique Electricity, and has also worked in the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The new five-year term still remains to be ratified by the Assembly of the Republic, a formality expected to happen in July when MPs return from the pre-election campaign to close the activities of the VIII Legislature.
