The district of Matutuíne has 42,000 inhabitants and 13 health facilities.
In its first phase, the presidential initiative foresees the construction of 15 health units, the first tranche of a total 90 hospitals envisaged for an equal number of districts.
According to the explanation offered on site, the Ponta do Ouro health unit will have emergency services, an operating theatre, maternity ward, mother’s waiting house, residence for the staff, a kitchen with water supply and a morgue, plus room to expand in the event of local population growth.
The presidential project aims to accelerate the implementation and equipping of infrastructure to ensure that Mozambique speedily expands quality health care coverage and services to all, and particularly rural, parts of the country.
The presidential initiative will be implemented by the Ministry of Health (MISAU) in coordination with the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER).
