A new barracks will be set up in Cabo Delgado to accommodate young people from the Local Force who graduated this Monday in Matalane, Maputo province.
“We have a huge security challenge conditioning our national integrity,” the Commander-in-Chief of the FDS said regarding the terrorism affecting the north of the country, which has resulted in the death of Mozambicans, the displacement of inhabitants and destruction of economic and social infrastructure.
According to Filipe Nyusi, terrorists are operating in small groups with the aim of spreading fear and terror in communities.
“We have as an example the 7th of September. After they lost their commander, Marisco, and another named Dady, also well-known, was seriously injured and later died, the terrorist Zuber led a small group which attacked in the area of Memba, where they took the lives of six citizens, including a Comboni sister of Italian nationality,” the President of the Republic said.
The president said that the government is committed to activities both to stop the attacks and guarantee the safe return of inhabitants to their areas of origin, with young people graduating in Matalane called upon to contribute to the reestablishment of security and the reconstruction of areas devastated by terrorism.
“The entry of more qualified Mozambicans into the ranks of the FDS (Defence and Security Forces], especially in the PRM (Police of the Republic of Mozambique), is an important contribution by the Mozambican people to strengthening our human capacity, allowing for greater coverage, surveillance, inspection and defence of our territorial integrity. So we recommend the PRM to reinvent itself, together with the other FDS forces in the field, intensifying its drive to fight off and remove all types of threat, aggression and disturbance of public order, in addition to creating the capacity to anticipate phenomena that disturb the tranquillity of Mozambicans. After all, the defence of the homeland and sovereignty is also the mission of the PRM,” the president detailed.
The head of state announced that the flow of training and specialisation in all areas would be increased.
“That’s why some who are here immediately go to specialised training. For those other young people who were working alongside the Local Force in Cabo Delgado, and who benefited from training, we are going to open another barracks in the province so that they can continue doing what they had been doing before the training,” President Nyusi said.
On the occasion, the President of the Republic also congratulated the 103 young athletes from the ranks of the PRM who recently won two gold, 39 silver and 18 bronze medals in the 2022 Southern African Regional Police Chief Cooperation games in Tanzania.
