President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique on Wednesday joined leaders of the Christian Council of Mozambique (CCM) for a meeting whose main objective was to salute him for his efforts “for a prosperous and peaceful country”.
CCM leaders took the opportunity to congratulate President Nyusi on his recent 60th birthday and reaffirmed that the government’s agenda was the one that guided the actions of the CCM, which was available to participate actively in the socio-political life of the country.
The religious organisation highlighted “what has already been achieved in general terms, and encouraged President Nyusi and his government to continue the peace process as one of their main agendas until satisfactory results for Mozambicans are achieved”.
In response, the president welcomed the gesture and the role of CCM in the various processes that the country is undergoing.
“We believe that the contribution of the Christian Council of Mozambique and other entities of civil and religious society in the moralisation of society is very important, and we encourage them to continue to play their role in promoting moral values and working for peace,” the head of state said.
President Nyusi urged the CCM to be the framework for solidarity with the victims of the attacks in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, “and to continue to explain the essence of the public debt, which should not be a reason for division among Mozambicans”.
“Let us continue to comply with the Government’s Five Year Plan to fight corruption at all levels and to participate in the mobilisation for the mass participation of Mozambicans in the coming elections. I also invite the CCM to participate in preparations for welcoming Pope Francis during his visit to Mozambique,” he said.
In turn, CCM President Felicidade Chirinda said that the institution would continue to make itself available and do all it could to cooperate with the government for the good of Mozambican society.
