Mozambique: Bridge collapse affects connection between two villages in Inhassunge, Zambézia

Power supply in downtown Maputo has been restricted since last Friday due to the Maputo Catembe bridge works, Notícias reports.
The supply of electricity to the downtown area of the country’s capital has since Friday “become disruptive due to the damaging a power cable during excavations of the Maputo-Catembe bridge construction,” reads the report .
Electricidade de Moçambique corrected Friday’s first cut on Saturday, but the cable was again hit by the excavations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, causing the area’s supply to be made by alternative means, according to t he same source.
Miramar TV reports that “the Chinese contractor for the Maputo-Catembe bridge over Maputo Bay has again cut through a primary electric power cable, interrupting supply to parts of Maputo’s central industrial zone.”
On Wednesday morning, the Maputo industrial zone reported reductions of about 10 MW in the supply of electricity after the contractor on the Maputo-Catembe bridge severed a cable feeding the area.
This is not the first time that EDM has complained about damage to electricity cables by the CBRC. Episodes have become more frequent and costly for the company, which on the one hand has to replace the cable, and on the other suffers unquantified loss of revenue, Miramar reports.
Even though EDM’s electrical cable conduits map was delivered to Maputo Sul, cable damage has been frequent. The source said that it has already notified the contractor as well as Maputo Sul about the occurrences, but to no effect.
