Transport company Nagi Investimentos has been forced to suspend its operations after two of its buses were set on fire by protesters. The company has stated that it will only resume activities once peace and tranquility are restored in the country.
Nagi Investimentos operates on various routes nationwide, but about a week ago, it halted its services because two buses were reduced to ashes by individuals protesting the results of the general elections.
“The problem is becoming too much, and even so, we are trying to avoid the most dangerous areas and negotiate with the protesters. We have suffered the loss of two vehicles that were burned (…) but we are working to manage the situation,” said Arone Mucha, a NAGI employee.
Passengers trying to purchase tickets to the city of Tete were surprised to find no buses operating.
Another passenger transport company, Space Liners, which operates the Maputo-Tete, Tete-Beira, and Tete-Chimoio routes, has chosen to park its buses out of fear of vandalism.
Meanwhile, mechanics are benefiting from the situation, as vehicles previously left without maintenance are now being repaired.
In Chimoio, only semi-collective passenger transport services are operating, albeit timidly.
