In Zambézia, 200 of the 2,000 people who sought refuge in Malawi due to post-election protests have returned to their areas of origin following a period of relative calm this week.
The returnees are residents of Morrumbala district in Zambézia, who fled to Malawi’s Sanje district last week due to the violence that characterised the protests.
The information was disclosed by the district administrator of Morrumbala, João Nhabessa, in a telephone interview with Rádio Moçambique.
“As the district government, we are in constant interaction with our neighbouring Malawian district of Sanje, to whom we extend our gratitude for this very valuable cooperation. What we are doing is continuing to work to ensure that public order and security stabilise and return to normal,” he said.
