The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) has emphasized the necessity of constructive, inclusive, sincere, and honest dialogue as essential for renewing the collective dream of building a Mozambique for all and establishing a political commitment to state reforms and ensuring the common good.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference in Maputo, the party’s president, Lutero Simango, outlined that these reforms involve depoliticizing the state, a thorough revision of the Constitution, and clearly redefining the management and exploitation of resources. He also stressed the need to revisit public policies in education and health, and to create employment opportunities to achieve a vibrant economy focused on combating corruption.
Regarding the proclamation of election results by the Constitutional Council, Simango reiterated his disagreement, citing the same reasons previously highlighted when the results were announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE). These include discrepancies in numbers, ballot stuffing, falsification of tally sheets, manipulation of results, and poor management of the entire electoral process.
“We do not recognize the results. Electoral fraud cannot be accepted. The annulment of the elections would have been the most appropriate decision to not only create an environment of peace but also seek another truth,” he said. He added that the country is in crisis, and political dialogue must be urgently pursued to renew the population’s hope.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the candidate and party declared winners of the general elections do not represent the solution to the problems of Mozambicans.
