President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has had a meeting with 31 Mozambican girls from Girl Move Academy who were in Portugal for the Life Internships part of their training programme. The Portuguese head of state received the girls at the Belém Palace, his official residence.
During the meeting, the president delivered an inspiring message highlighting the responsibility that each of the Girl Movers have in Mozambique and the importance of Mozambican women in the positive and sustainable change and development of the world.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa listened carefully to the testimony of the Girl Movers, who are now returning to Mozambique. These future Mozambican leaders had the opportunity to present their testimony and explain how Life Stages in Portugal is important for realising their career plans and their impact on Mozambique.
The Girl Movers were in Portugal for two months of internships with large companies and social innovation organisations.
They have won the world, but they have also taken the world to Portugal, in exchange for valuable social and intellectual skills and experiences, such as the impact plans that some of the host companies have established and are already developing as a result of the partnership with the Girl Move Academy.
The young women also had the opportunity to be involved in social projects, training in a work, coaching and leadership context.
Before going to Portugal, the 31 young women, graduates from Mozambique’s best universities, attended the third edition of the Girl MOVE Academy’s CHANGE Programme for one year in Nampula.
This is an Advanced Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship programme forming a new generation of female leaders and which aspires to contribute to the development of Mozambique.
The meeting with the Portuguese president marked the end of the internships in Portugal, closing a unique experience, both from a personal and a professional point of view, with a golden key.
In Mozambique, Girl MOVE Academy is preparing the start of the fourth edition of the CHANGE Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Programme, scheduled to begin in January 2019. Applications for this new edition ran from July to October and this year have reached a record 1,300 in number.
Programme partners include Lúrio University, Eduardo Mondlane University, the Pedagogical University, the Catholic University of Mozambique and the Polytechnic University in Mozambique, as well as the Portuguese Catholic University and Nova School of Business and Economics.
With more than 45 partner companies, a network of more than 100 innovative entrepreneurs and social organisations, and in close connection with Mozambican public entities, Girl MOVE Academy works on the basis that change comes through strong partnerships. Inspired by the Mozambican woman, it believes in the power of female leadership and the difference women can make in Mozambique.
