The Portuguese company Novabase has been put in charge of processing data from Mozambique’s 2017 Census, the Mozambican National Statistics Institute (INE) has announced.
“Novabase offered the best contract,” INE president Rosario Fernandes said, quoted on Friday by state newspaper Notícias.
The fourth Mozambique General Census of Population and Housing was held from August 1 to 15, and data processing is done using optical reading technology. The INE expects preliminary results to be released by December 30.
The previous census, held in 2007, established a population of 20.8 million, with the INE estimating that the 2017 census would register 27.1 million Mozambicans, a growth of 30 percent.
