Mozambique Pavilion at Expo Osaka reaches one million visitors
The owner of a commercial establishment in Maputo has been missing since October 15 after having allegedly been kidnapped in South Africa, a source has told Lusa.
Guitabali Samji, 52, of dual Portuguese and Mozambican nationality, divides her time between Maputo and Mbombela (formerly called Neilspruit, in South Africa), and went missing from the latter, which sits about 200 kilometres from the Mozambican capital.
Her disappearance was announced by the police after they found Guitabali Samji’s car abandoned on the outskirts of Mbombela with its windows broken.
The alleged kidnappers have meanwhile demanded a ransom of undisclosed size, but the matter has not yet been resolved, the same source said.
The situation is being investigated by South African police with the assistance of Mozambican and Portuguese diplomatic and consular representatives.
