The Consulate General of Portugal in Maputo is asking Portuguese citizens travelling on roads in the central and northern regions of Mozambican to be particularly careful.
The Portuguese consulate says political and military tensions between Renamo and the government persist in Sofala, Manica, Tete and Zambezia provinces and in the north of Inhambane, and incidents including armed clashes have been reported.
The Portuguese embassy recommends heightened awareness and self-protection while the situation persists, particularly along the EN1 in Sofala province and EN6 in Manica province, and advises travellers to monitor the situation on local media.
