A Portuguese businessman has been missing since Sunday in Swaziland, a case being investigated by police and mobilising the local community, a consular source who accompanied the situation said today.
Almor Simões Oliveira, 77, who was born in Oliveira do Bairro, Portugal, has been living in this small country between South Africa and Mozambique for several decades and has disappeared without any further contacts.
The Portuguese citizen linked to the industrial sector lives with his wife and is one of the “most prestigious” business persons in the community, in the city of Matsapha, Portuguese Consul in Maputo, Frederico Silva told Lusa.
Portuguese consulate services in the Mozambican capital “are monitoring the situation” alongside the honorary consul’s efforts in Swaziland, he added.
“Since his disappearance, there has been no further contact,” and “[Swaziland’s] police say they are doing everything they can” to try to find him, said Frederico Silva.
Almor Simões Oliveira was last seen during the celebration of the Easter mass in the city where he lived.
The car he was driving was to be found later, open, empty, with a rearview mirror broken and with traces of blood.
The disappearance has mobilised the local community.
A vigil for the businessman has been scheduled and there are announcements on the radios asking for information about the whereabouts of the Portuguese citizen.
It is estimated that the Portuguese community in Swaziland has around 1,300 people.
