The leader of the PSD (opposition), Rui Rio, said on Tuesday that the secretary-general of the Socialists, PM António Costa, is “on the verge of losing the elections” should lower the level of the campaign and suggested that he “lose with dignity”.
In response to questions from journalists, during a walking tour in the centre of Beja, which lasted about an hour and a half, Rui Rio again accused António Costa of misrepresenting the PSD’s proposals and used the expression “lacking the truth”, adding that if he continues like this he will end up having to “say that he lies”.
“I think that António Costa is effectively on the verge of losing the elections. And I think that he, for what he has done in politics throughout his life, which has a very long political career, could lose them with dignity,” he then suggested.
The PSD President reinforced this message: “I hope he takes advantage of his last days so that if he loses, which is very likely, he loses them with dignity. Do not go around here frightening people, saying that I said this when I did not, saying that I lied here when I did not. This is what is regrettable.
According to Rui Rio, the PS secretary-general and prime minister has contributed to the fact that the campaign for Sunday’s legislative elections “is lowering the level”.
“I even tried to give a certain tone of humour here and there. I think it’s important, we have to be in a good mood, there’s no point in all of us beating each other up here. We fight with ideas, but we can be in a good mood. So, the last thing I would want, honestly, is for the campaign to end this way”, he said.
