President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will today (18-11) hold meetings with President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi and Brazil’s president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The meeting with Filipe Nyusi is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Lisbon time, and that with Lula two hours later.
President Filipe Nyusi is on a working visit to Portugal at the invitation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Mozambican presidency announced yesterday in Maputo.
President Nysui and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will discuss the state of bilateral and multilateral relations, and exchange views on matters of mutual interest in the fields of defence and security (particularly in the process of training Special Forces for combating terrorism) and the search of new opportunities for cooperation in the sectors agriculture, tourism and labour, a statement from the Mozambican presidency reads.
Filipe Nyusi will also hold official talks with Portuguese prime minister António Costa, and chair a round table on agribusiness and tourism.
The Mozambican head of state will also be guest of honour alongside President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza and Prime Minister António Costa at the opening of the Montebelo Mosteiro de Alcobaça hotel, belonging to the Visabeira group, which owns hotel units in Mozambique, namely the recently inaugurated Montebelo Milibangalala Bay Resort in Maputo National Park.
Nyusi heads to Portugal after a visit to Finland, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Verónica Macamo, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Celso Correia, Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs Helena Kida and Minister of Culture and Tourism Eldevina Materula.
The visit takes place two-and-a-half months after António Costa headed a Portuguese delegation to Maputo for the 5th Summit between the two countries, hosted by Filipe Nyusi.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva makes his first visit to Portugal after being elected President of Brazil on 30 October. In addition to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, he also has a meeting scheduled with the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa. Lula will take office in January 2023.
