The Portuguese minister for the environment and the secretary of state for science will also be in self-isolation after having been in close contact with minister Manuel Heitor, who is infected with the new coronavirus.
According to a government source, despite having had negative tests, the health authorities recommended that João Pedro Matos Fernandes and João Sobrinho Teixeira, remain in isolation for 14 days as of the 8th.
The labour minister, Ana Mendes Godinho, and planning minister, Nelson de Souza, were already in self-isolation for having been seated near the minister of science and higher education, Manuel Heitor, in the last cabinet meeting on 8 October.
“Everyone is working from home, they just cancelled their travel schedule, which are being replaced by participation by videoconference,” said the same government source.
In total, five members of the Portuguese government are now in isolation, after minister Manuel Heitor reported on Sunday that he was infected with the virus responsible for Covid-19 disease, although he is asymptomatic.
