Cornelder de Moçambique SA recently distinguished a total of 11 operators involved in Container and General Cargo Terminals of the Porto da Beira, Sofala province, in the first cycle of the Cornelder Annual Awards 2021.
The Cornelder Awards initiative aims to bring together industry leaders to celebrate collaborative achievements and reward organizations and individuals that have contributed to the growth of the Port of Beira.
Despite the constraints dictated by the Covid-19 pandemic and its negative impact on the global economy, the Porto da Beira terminals registered positive results in 2020.
By the end of last year, the general cargo terminal had handled a record volume of 3.13 million tons, surpassing the previous record of 2.64 million tons registered in 2017.
Although the volume handled by the container terminal decreased by 1.7% between 2019 and 2020, a total of 255,459 TEUs (Twenty Feet Equivalent Unita) was recorded in 2020, a number which demonstrates that the Port of Beira was only marginally affected by the slowdown in maritime transport resulting from Covid-19.
