Mozambique: President of the Republic visits South Africa
A member of the political bureau and head of the Frelimo party central brigade in assistance to the province of Manica, Alcinda De Abreu, called on the population of Macate District district in the central province of Manica yesterday to remain vigilant and report the presence of citizens that are from outside of to the communities, in order to allow the government to successfully proceed with Renamo’s disarmament process .
In recent times, Renamo, the main opposition party in the country, has been carrying out a series of attacks on the main Mozambican roads claiming the governance of the six provinces where it believes to have collected more votes in the general elections of October 2014.
Alcinda De Abreu said during a popular rally that the disarmament of Renamo remains an appropriate measure to curb the wave of violence that exists in the country, led by men who illegally carry firearms.
“It was for this purpose that the government decided to initiate a process of collecting all weapons that are in the possession of unauthorized persons and who spread terror among the Mozambican people,” she said.
The official explained that the success of this work involves the collaboration of the population, denouncing the presence of strangers circulating in neighbourhoods to sometimes launch messages inciting to violence.
“We have seen strange people in our communities. When this happens we report to our own security. We can not let malicious people create instability in our neighbourhoods,” said Abreu, stressing that calm and tranquillity in the communities depends on the direct collaboration of the population.
Abreu said that Macate District in particular and Mozambique, in general, want to continue to grow and end poverty and, therefore, an effective peace for the people to pursue wealth-generating activities must prevail.
“Those who still have weapons, want to see the country stagnant. They do not want to develop. We, Frelimo, want to continue to grow. That is why we remain committed to finding solutions to the problems plaguing the people. We want peace because it makes room for people to work. With peace we can bring more wealth,” she said.
Meanwhile, the community leader of Zembe, Jualinho Catize, who spoke on behalf of the people of his region, said that the Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, must accept the invitation to negotiate with the President, Filipe Nyusi, and find a peaceful solution to end the violence that exists in the country.
“We build our homes, we have fields and cattle. We are progressing, we do not want more war. Better get Afonso Dhlakama to come say what does he want to end the political and military conflict. We want peace, please. No more war. We have suffered a lot,” said Catize.
