Population blocks EN4 after hit-and-run driver injures 7-year-old – Matola

A seven-year-old child was hit by a vehicle at the junction between Matola 700 and EN4 in Matola on Thursday morning as he was returning from school.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and the injured child was transported to Maputo Central Hospital by witnesses to the accident incident.
The incident triggered a wave of fury, and residents took to the streets blocking the EN4 for some time, demanding the construction of a bridge or the placing of speed bumps along that section of the road.
The local population says accidents are frequent and have already claimed several lives, the latest just last week.
The police intervened to calm the mood of the public and restore public order.
