Outbreak of Marburg virus disease in Tanzania put Mozambique on alert
With the 4th General Census of Population and Housing scheduled for August 1 to 15 this year, the process of sending the material to be used for the collection of data from households to the provinces is already under way.
Arão Balate, Director of Censuses and Inquiries at the National Statistical Institute (INE), tells newspaper Domingo that material such census bulletins, manuals for enumerators and controllers, publicity material, and labels identifying the registered and unregistered houses have already been sent to Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete and Gaza.
“Given its specific nature, we are currently working on sending material to Zambézia. As one of the largest provinces with particular access challenges, we are focussing on the allocation of material there which other provinces – Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, and the city and province of Maputo – will get later,” Balate explained.
One hundred and twenty-two of the 131 vehicles donated by the World Bank to support the census are already in the country. The INE says the four-wheel drive vehicles will be distributed to the provincial delegations based on quotas according to the magnitude of the work.
The vehicles will be used exclusively for the collection of census data and afterwards for other statistical operations such as surveys and the collection of statistical information from public and private institutions.
A donation of motorcycles and bicycles is expected from India, to be allocated to the districts and administrative posts under the direct responsibility of local authorities. As in the case of vehicles, these assets will be used exclusively for statistical collection activities.
